saw 1932’s By Whose Hand? last night at MoMA, as a part of their Lady in the Dark: Crime Films from Columbia Pictures 1932–1957 series.  It was a fun and mildy thrilling pic about a murderer on the lam, with the police and ace reporter Ben Lyon hot on his trail.  Adventure and mystery and murder ensues, and so does heart pitter-patter between Lyons and passenger Barbara Weeks.  Best part is that they told the story effectively in only 63 minutes.  Maybe movies today can learn from this less minutes is plenty practice!
